What is availability?

Availability refers to the current number of openings in a home for placements. Binti calculates availability by subtracting the number of children currently placed and beds temporarily unavailable from total approved capacity.

How does the availability update impact me?

On September 27, 2023 the Availability interface will be updated. In the current interface, pictured above, Binti asks for the number of available beds. In the new interface, pictured at the beginning of this article, Binti will ask for the number of unavailable beds. There will be no change in how the "Availability/Capacity" column displays on the Placements dashboard. 

Binti will automatically update your data to accommodate the new interface. Take the following example, where availability remains at 2 beds.

Old interface: 2 beds available out of a total capacity of 2

converts to

New interface: 0 beds temporarily unavailable out of a total capacity of 2

How do I manage availability for a family?

Availability can be accessed in two ways via the Placements dashboard:

  1. Click the hyperlinked options under the "Availability/Capacity" column.
  2. Select "Edit Placement Information" on the Actions dropdown menu.

How do I edit the capacity of a caregiver?

Capacity is managed in the Licensing module. If you have access to the Licensing module, read how to modify capacity. If you do not have access to the Licensing module, contact the agency worker responsible for managing the caregiver's license.

How do I edit the number of children in the home?

The number of children in home is automatically populated based on active placements. In order to modify this number, either make a new placement or end an existing placement in the home.

How do I edit the number of beds temporarily unavailable?

The number of "Beds Temporarily Unavailable" is managed in the Availability section on the Edit Placement Information page. The interactive walk-through below provides step-by-step instructions for modifying this number.
