How do I add a sibling connection?

Overview

In order to associate siblings, all children must already have profiles in Binti. The last child in a sibling set can have siblings added during intake, otherwise they can be added later on the Edit Child Information page for each child.

Note: adding a sibling connection to a child's information page also adds the connection to the associated child's information page, reducing the need for duplicate entry. For a three or more sibling set, each child must be associated at least once to any sibling - the system does not assume common siblings.

During intake

You can add a sibling connection during intake if the other siblings are already in Binti.

  1. In the top blue ribbon, click "Children & Youth" and the select "Intake Child or Youth".
  2. Enter all required information about the child or youth.
  3. Click the plus icon (➕) to expand the "Siblings" section.
  4. Type in the sibling’s name, and select the correct one from the results. Be sure to cross-check unique identifiers, like date of birth, to make sure you are connecting the correct child. Click "Submit".

After intake

If the sibling(s) are not yet in Binti, you will need to add each of them via the Intake Child or Youth page (see steps 1 and 2 above), and then add at least one connection to each child's Edit Child Information page:

  1. Add all siblings via the Intake Child or Youth page.
  2. In the top blue ribbon, click "Children & Youth" and the select "Children & Youth" to go to the Children & Youth Dashboard.
  3. Search for the children using the filter button.
💙 Binti Tip: You can add multiple names to the filter tool simultaneously, allowing you to view results for the entire sibling set together on the dashboard.
  4. For the first sibling, click "Actions" on the far right and select "Edit Child".
  5. Scroll to the "Siblings" section and click the plus icon (➕) to expand it.
  6. Type in the sibling’s name and select the correct one from the results - be sure to cross-check unique identifiers, like date of birth. Click "Submit".

💡 Computer Tip: Opening each page in a new tab reduces the need to use the "back" button, and ensures that you do not lose any filters you have applied. Always refresh your primary tab when using this method so that any changes you made on other tabs will be reflected.

Windows: while hovering over the link, hold down the "Ctrl" key and click on the link; this will open the link in a new browser tab across most web browsers.

Mac: while hovering over the link, hold down the "Command" key and click on the link; this shortcut works for both Safari and Chrome.
