How do I switch the Primary Applicant to Co-Applicant (and vice-versa)?

This feature is in phased rollout.

If you don't see the "Switch with Co-applicant" button, your agency doesn't have this feature yet. If this is case for you, please contact Binti support by typing Talk to a Human in the chat widget for further assistance in changing a primary applicant to a co-applicant.

Overview

This article explains how to switch the roles of Primary Applicant and Co-Applicant within the same household in Binti.

How to switch roles

  1. Navigate to the Applicant Data page.

  2. Click the “Switch with Co-Applicant” button.

  3. If the co-applicant has an email address on file, they will automatically receive a Welcome Email with login instructions once assigned the Primary Applicant role.

What will change in Binti

Profile data

  • Each applicant is assigned a new role. The Primary Applicant becomes the Co-Applicant, and vice versa.

  • Key information such as name, date of birth, email address, phone number, and unique identifiers (e.g., applicant IDs) move with the person to their new role.

  • The “joined the home” date is reset to the current date.

  • Changes are recorded on the Household History page.

Documents and forms

  • Any required forms shared across both roles will carry over to the new profile.

  • Unsigned forms will update to reflect each applicant’s new role.

  • Signed forms must be re-signed.

  • Completed Co-Applicant-specific documents will be moved to the Other/Miscellaneous Documents section.

  • Incomplete Co-Applicant-specific documents will be removed.

Background checks

  • Background check results are retained and move with the applicant to their new role.

What will not change

  • Case notes: Existing notes remain unchanged.

  • Complaints: Finalized complaints remain for reference and cannot be edited.

  • Appeals: Appeals remain attached to the license and are not affected by the role change.

  • Previous applications: Historical data—including forms, background checks, trainings, and exemptions—remain unchanged and reflect their original state at time of approval.
