Overview
When adding potential connections through Potential Kin Online Search (PKOS), Binti can now check whether that person may already exist in your agency’s records.
If Binti finds a possible duplicate, you can review the existing connection, add or update information from the PKOS results, and link the connection to the selected child without creating a duplicate record.
Why this matters
Duplicate connection records can make it harder to understand a child’s network and keep information up to date.
This feature helps your agency:
- Reduce duplicate connection records
- Reuse connections that already exist
- Link an existing connection to additional children
- Add newly discovered information to an existing record
- Resolve conflicting information before saving changes
The result is a cleaner, more complete view of a child’s connections across Family Finding.
How it works
When you select a potential connection in PKOS and choose the child or children they should be added to, Binti checks your agency’s existing connection records for possible matches.
Binti may compare:
- CLEAR Entity ID
- Name
- Date of birth
- Social Security number
- Address
- Phone number
- Email address
Based on the information that matches, Binti may identify an existing record as a High Match or Potential Match.
Note: A match does not automatically mean the records belong to the same person. Review the information before deciding how to proceed.
If an existing connection is found
If Binti finds a connection that already exists in your agency but is not linked to the selected child, you will see the option to Add to selected child.
Selecting this option allows you to:
- Link the existing connection to the child
- Review information returned by PKOS
- Add new information to the existing record
- Update existing information when needed
This helps you build on the existing connection instead of creating another record for the same person.
Review the connection information
If a duplicate is identified, Binti will open the Duplicate Resolution window.
Here, you can compare information already saved on the connection with information returned through PKOS.
You may see three types of information:
Conflicting information
If the existing record and PKOS results contain different information for the same field, the conflict will be highlighted in yellow.
Select the information you want to keep.
All conflicts must be resolved before you can continue
New information
If PKOS finds information that is not already on the existing connection, Binti will automatically select it to be added.
If you do not want to add a specific item, uncheck Add to record.
Updated information
If PKOS provides information that can update an existing value, Binti will mark it as an Update and automatically select it.
If you do not want to make that change, uncheck Update record.
Review your changes
After you resolve any conflicts and choose what information to add or update, Binti will show you a summary of the changes.
Review this summary before confirming.
Adding multiple connections
You can add multiple potential connections from PKOS at the same time.
If Binti finds possible duplicates for more than one connection, you will need to review each one before completing the workflow.
Submit your connections
Once you have reviewed all connections, select Submit.
Binti will display a confirmation showing what happened for each connection.
If you added multiple connections, the confirmation will show which connections were:
- Added
- Updated
- Linked
- Skipped
You can also use the link in the confirmation message to return to the child or children’s Relationship Dashboard.
By reviewing potential duplicates before creating a new connection, you can help keep your agency’s Family Finding records accurate, complete, and easier to navigate. When a match is found, take a moment to review the existing record and any new information returned through PKOS before submitting your changes. This helps ensure each child’s Relationship Dashboard reflects the most current and useful information available.
